Associate Director

Sara Ostrowski

Sara is the Associate Director of the California-Pacific-Northwest AI Hardware Hub and also supports lab activities at nano@stanford – Stanford’s shared research facility for nanoscale science and engineering. She earned a Ph.D in Analytical Chemistry from Penn State University, where she used TOF-SIMS to study the possible role of cell membrane lipids in biological function. Following her doctorate, Sara spent five years at General Electric applying TOF-SIMS and AFM to aid the company’s R&D efforts before taking a position at EAG Laboratories. During her twelve years at EAG, she managed the Surface Properties group and provided AFM and Profilometry characterization services for a broad array of applications that supported clients in industry, government, and academia worldwide. In 2022, Sara joined Stanford as the Associate Director of its National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI) site, which facilitated open-access to nano@stanford and developed educational programs designed to inspire learners of all ages about nanoscience.  Outside of work, Sara enjoys travel and the arts.
