About

Join a hands-on PCB Assembly Workshop at UC Davis instructed by Peggy Zhu, a graduate student at UC Davis and an Altium Training Educator who hosts Altium Designer trainings and workshops. Participants will learn the complete process of ordering, soldering, and testing a musical keychain printed circuit board (PCB). No prior experience is required. You are welcome to join even if you have not completed the 24-hour Essentials Training or the 8-hour PCB Design Workshop.

Workshop Schedule

The workshop consists of two sessions:

1. PCB Ordering Session

Date: May 23, 2026 | Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Location: Discord (not recorded)

  • Participants who completed the 8-hour PCB Design Workshop may order the PCB they designed.
  • Participants without prior PCB design experience will receive all required Gerber files to place an order.
  • You will learn how to upload Gerber files to JLCPCB and place a PCB manufacturing order.

The estimated cost for a typical order of 5 PCBs plus shipping is approximately $35 USD ($4 for the PCBs and the remainder for shipping). Participants may combine orders to reduce shipping costs.

2. PCB Soldering Session

Date: June 12, 2026 | Time: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM | Location: Kemper Hall 2161

  • Participants will solder and assemble the PCBs they ordered.
  • All soldering equipment and electronic components will be provided.
  • Participants will receive a step-by-step instructional video covering soldering, testing, and programming the musical keychain PCB.
